Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E) - The Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced on Wednesday 5th that the criminal investigation into soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo's rape allegations remains active.
The alleged victim Kathryn Mayorga dropped her civil case filed in state court in Nevada a couple of days ago, which made many people believe that the two parties had reached a settlement and the case was finally solved.
However, Mayorga's lawyer Larissa Drohobyczer announced that her client is not backing down and are moving the lawsuit from state court to federal court.
Drohobyczer pointed out that this would facilitate the chance of suing someone who lives abroad like Ronaldo since the laws in federal court are more favorable in this type of procedures.
As it was reported on most media outlets, Mayorga claims that the soccer superstar raped her in Las Vegas in 2009.
Mayorga initially filed a police report describing the alleged crime, but she didn't identify the Portuguese player by his name.
In the original lawsuit, the alleged victim says she later accepted a payment of $375,000 in exchange for her silence. However, she now wants the agreement voided.
So far, no charges have been brought against Ronaldo.
