Spanish LaLiga football club Barcelona announced on Tuesday that it will sell the naming rights to its Iconic Camp Nou stadium for the first time through an agreement with the Barça Foundation in order to raise money in battling against the coronavirus.
The board of directors of the club has already given approval in ceding the stadium’s naming rights to the foundation for the 2020-21 season. Barça Foundation will begin the process of finding a sponsor in the coming weeks in order to acquire naming rights for the stadium for a year.
The generated proceeds by the naming-rights agreement will be allocated for the research projects and other movements in fighting against COVID-19, both locally and internationally.
This is the first time that Camp Nou has ever had naming-rights sponsoring deal. The stadium’s name “Camp Nou” will be maintained in addition to including the sponsor, while its capacity will be increased from 99,000 to around 105,000 as part of the club’s wide-ranging Espai Barça project.
